BMW M5 4.4 PHEV – 11/2024

Exterior:
The 2024 BMW M5 4.4 PHEV introduces a bold evolution of the legendary M5, combining muscular styling with electrified performance. The body features flared fenders, an aggressive front fascia with enlarged air intakes, and a blacked-out kidney grille. Adaptive LED or optional Laser headlights and a subtly integrated rear diffuser with quad exhaust tips underscore its high-performance intent. The vehicle sits on 20-inch forged alloy wheels as standard, with 21-inch options available, emphasizing its athletic stance.

Performance and Efficiency:
Under the hood, the new M5 features a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with an electric motor in a plug-in hybrid configuration. The combined system output is expected to exceed 717 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful M5 to date. Power is sent to all four wheels via an M-tuned xDrive system and an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission. Despite the added battery system, acceleration remains brutal—0 to 100 km/h in approximately 3.4 seconds. The PHEV setup also allows for short-range electric-only driving, with a battery capacity of around 18–20 kWh, offering an estimated EV range of 40–50 km (WLTP).

Interior and Features:
The interior of the M5 PHEV blends luxury and motorsport precision. M multifunction sport seats, Merino leather upholstery, and carbon fiber or aluminum trim are standard. The curved BMW display includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen with the latest iDrive 8.5 system. Features include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, adaptive ambient lighting, a Bowers & Wilkins or Harman Kardon sound system, heated/ventilated/massage seats, and a panoramic roof.

Technology and Safety:
BMW equips the M5 with its Driving Assistant Professional suite, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, traffic jam assist, blind spot monitoring, 360° cameras, and autonomous emergency braking. Parking Assistant Plus with remote control parking and reversing assistant is also standard. The PHEV drivetrain includes configurable driving modes, including pure electric, hybrid, and sport modes for dynamic performance management.
